Deep Night with Dale Live

Featuring guests Lola Kirke, Wanjiko Eke, Kiley Lotz , and Sarah Lazarus.

A talk show about the dark art of comedy hosted by otherworldly comedian and mystic, Dale Seever. On this live episode, Dale welcomes a celebrated panel of musicians, actors, and comedians including Lola Kirke (Mozart in the Jungle, Mistress America), Wanjiko Eke (Cinderblock Comedy Festival, Witch Hunt), Kiley Lotz (Petal), and Sarah Lazarus (Eugene Mirman Comedy Festival, Brooklyn Comedy Festival). With theremin accompaniment by Cornelius Loy.

On Wednesday, November 15th, Deep Night with Dale is live at The Slipper Room in NYC for another hour of regrets, revelations, and rising stars. Comedy, crystals, and making music for the cosmos will be discussed with a stellar lineup of guests and a host made of stardust. Called a “must listen for anyone interested in the art of comedy,” the show has proven Dale’s uncanny ability to highlight the next generation of cultural talents. With a guest list that has included such luminaries as John Early, Kate Berlant, Jo Firestone, Aparna Nancherla, Ilana Glazer, Bridget Everett, Cole Escola, Janelle James, Jackie Kashian, Matt Besser, Chris Gethard, Elle King, and Sasheer Zamata among others, seeing the show is almost like seeing the future of entertainment. Or it may be an essential oils pyramid scheme. It’s definitely a way to watch an older fella in a turtleneck.

About the Host:

Your guide through the Deep Night is the Dale Seever (aka comedian James Bewley). In his black turtleneck and with an owl-shaped amulet (owlmulet) around his neck, Dale offers a healing voice in the wee hours of the evening, that moment when the ceaseless night gives way to another endless day. Dale has performed across the country to sold-out halls and enthusiastic crowds in small bars and basements. He’s been hailed as a “post-modern Garrison Keillor”, “reminiscent of Alan Partridge”, with “a voice like a shoulder squeeze”.

James Bewley is a Brooklyn-based performer whose work has been presented as part of numerous comedy and storytelling shows across the country. Deep Night with Dale welcomes an eclectic lineup of comedians, artists, and other creatures of the night to talk about their lives and creative pursuits. Bewley trained at Upright Citizens Brigade and has made regular appearances at Joe’s Pub, Ars Nova, NYC Podfest, SF Sketchfest, Union Hall, Littlefield, and UCB NY among other fine venues.

About the Guests:

Musician/actress LOLA KIRKE was born in London and grew up in New York City, but her beautifully plaintive songs, twanging guitar melodies, and smoky vocals will make you think she’s the time-traveling true brains behind Cosmic American Music, Outlaw country, and the '60s Upstate New York scene. She released her debut EP last fall and is set to release her first full length early next year.

WANJIKO EKE is an Austin, TX native. She got her start in LA a few years ago, and has performed all over the country. She combines her high energy and weirdness on stage to entertain a variety of audiences. She is a co-host of the regular comedy showcase, Witch Hunt, inspired by the infamous Salem Witch trials of Colonial Massachusetts.

Drawing inspiration from bands like Pedro the Lion and Death Cab for Cutie, PETAL is the brainchild of Scranton, Pennsylvania-based singer/songwriter KILEY LOTZ. Formed in 2012, Lotz utilizes a rotating lineup that includes members of Tigers Jaw, Three Man Cannon, and Captain We’re Sinking. The project's debut EP Scout featured contributions from Tigers Jaw members Ben Walsh and Brianna Collins, and drew favorable comparisons to artists like Lemuria, Waxahatchee, and Cat Power. The band's debut studio long player, Shame, was released in 2015 via Run for Cover Records.

SARAH LAZARUS is a Brooklyn-based comedian. She has performed at the Eugene Mirman Comedy Festival and Brooklyn Comedy Festival, and is a writer & performer with the sketch group All Female Reboot. Sarah also co-hosts the delightfully unhinged standup/character showcase Tight Ship, which sets sail every month from Freddy's Bar in Park Slope. Her tweets have been featured at places like Funny Or Die, Paste, and Bust, but are featured much more regularly on her Twitter: @sarahclazarus
