Guest event: Deep Night with Dale
Guest event: Deep Night with Dale
Now in its tenth year, this live talk show is hosted by James Bewley in the guise of his garrulous alter ego, the turtleneck-wearing, essential-oils-peddling, wannabe-wellness-guru, Dale Seever. Each hour-long show is an opportunity for Dale to subject a panel of creative and funny guests to his unique line of questioning. On this Deep Night, Dale welcomes comedians Todd Barry (Conan, Bob's Burgers, The Crowd Work Tour) Monroe Martin (The Tonight Show), and Alex Song (IFC, Netflix) along with author Mallory O’Meara (The Lady from the Black Lagoon), to talk creatures, comedy, and more. With music on the theremin by Cornelius Loy and dance from 96B Dance Theatre.

About the Host:

Your guide through the Deep Night is Dale Seever. In his form-fitting turtleneck and magical owl-shaped amulet, Dale invites audiences to join him in exploring the strange comedic energies of the cosmos. Dale has appeared across the country before enthusiastic crowds in bars, basements, and comedy festivals of every size. He is portrayed by James Bewley who began his career in sketch comedy in San Francisco, trained at Upright Citizens Brigade in Los Angeles, and has been a fixture of the New York scene for the last ten years. He is a recurring performer on Running Late with Scott Rogowsky and can be seen leading misguided meditations on the current season of The Special Without Brett Davis on cable access. As Dale he has performed at SF Sketchfest, Hell Yes Fest, RSVP at ARLO, Showgasm, Joe’s Pub, and ANT Fest at Ars Nova.

About the Guests:

TODD BARRY was born in the Bronx. He moved to South Florida as a cute little boy, then to Manhattan as a macho little man. You may have seen him as Mickey Rourke's mean boss in The Wrestler, the annoying bongo player on Flight of the Conchords; or on At Home with Amy Sedaris, Delocated, Sex and the City, The Larry Sanders Show, Chappelle's Show, and Bored To Death. He's done stand-up on Letterman, Conan, and in two of his own Comedy Central Presents specials, and you can also hear his voice on Dr. Katz: Professional Therapist, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Home Movies, and Squidbillies.

MONROE MARTIN is a rising comedy star who mines his laughs from life experience such as growing up in foster care and bouncing around from one dysfunctional family to another. With a very honest, open approach to storytelling and an engaging personality, Martin effortlessly turns his childhood of hard knock experiences into comedy gold. Monroe has appeared on NBC’s Last Comic Standing, Comedy Central’s Adam Devine’s House Party, MTV’s Guy Code, TV Land’s The Jim Gaffigan Show, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Netflix Master Of None, and AXS TV’s Gotham Comedy Live.

MALLORY O'MEARA is an author, screenwriter and genre film producer. She is the co-host of the weekly literary podcast Reading Glasses, alongside filmmaker and actress Brea Grant. Whether it's for the screen or the page, Mallory seeks creative projects imbued with the weird; horror and monsters are her passion. She lives in Los Angeles with her partner their collection of books and cats. Her first book, The Lady From The Black Lagoon, the chronicle of Mallory's search for and a biography of Milicent Patrick, is being published by Hanover Square Press on March 5th, 2019.

ALEX SONG has written for TV shows including The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, HBO's Night of Too Many Stars, Comedy Knockout, and more. As an actor, Alex recently had a supporting role in Netflix's The Week Of, directed by Robert Smigel and starring Adam Sandler and Chris Rock. She has also appeared in shorts and sketches for Amazon, Comedy Central, Funny or Die, IFC, MTV’s Girl Code, The Chris Gethard Show, Above Average, and more. Alex can be seen performing stand-up, improv, and sketch in New York and around the country, most notably as the co-host and producer of the hit bicoastal all-Asian American variety show, Asian AF, at the UCB Theatre NY and LA.

96B DANCE THEATRE embodies elements of surrealist movement, absurd humor, and contemporary dance forms. With roots in acting and movement improvisation, the work intends to dissolve barriers between audience and performer in order to create space for collective experience. The mission of the company's creative process is to engage in honest collaboration and conversation. 96B creates visceral works that are unique to various performance platforms, such as theater, film, gallery, and event spaces.
